South Korea experiences another presidential transition.

Breaking News: South Korea's Han Dok Su Jumps Back into Presidential Race

Get ready for another round in South Korea's political arena! Reports are buzzing that Han Dok Su, a seasoned politician known for his distinguished career, is set to run in the upcoming June 3 presidential election. He made this announcement at a recent press conference, stating, "After pondering the weighty responsibility I shoulder amidst these tough times, and scrutinizing if this decision is indeed appropriate and inevitable, I've decided that if it's the sole path, I must tread it."

This will mark the fourth time Han Dok Su has thrown his hat in the ring over the past six months. History tells us that crisis hit South Korea back in December 2024 when incumbent President Yun Suk Yeol instated martial law, outlawed political activity, and disbanded the legislative body, citing the need to "protect the constitutional order." These restrictions were withdrawn on the same day they were enforced. Yun Suk Yeol was impeached on December 14 and arrested on January 15. However, he was released from custody on March 7. On April 4, the South Korean Constitutional Court upheld Yun Suk Yeol's impeachment.

During this turbulent period, Han Dok Su took on the role of acting president from December 14 to 27, 2024, and was also impeached but later acquitted by the Constitutional Court. Vice Premier for the Economy Choi Sang Mok filled the post until the end of March. The question on everyone's lips right now is, who'll serve as the acting president until the elections?

As a side note, Han Dok Su enjoys a rich political background spanning decades. Born on June 18, 1949, in Jeonju, he served as the Prime Minister of South Korea in 2006 and briefly from February to February-March 2008. He's also held the role of Acting President of South Korea on two occasions, starting at some point in 2024 and again in 2025[1][4], due to political circumstances.
