The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the expansion of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chicago, as part of a targeted operation aimed at serving a felony arrest warrant for a criminal illegal alien in the city. This operation, known as "Operation Midway Blitz", was publicly declared under the Trump administration in September 2025.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem participated in the operation, reiterating the administration's commitment to addressing illegal immigration. Noem was in Chicago to make it clear that they are not backing down in their efforts.

During the operation, several men, described as criminal illegal aliens, were arrested. Among those arrested were two U.S. citizens, according to CBS News. However, the DHS disputes that any U.S. citizens were arrested, stating that they were briefly held for safety during the operation.

One U.S. citizen, Joe Botello, recounted his experience of the raid to the Chicago Tribune. Botello, who was born in the U.S., alleges that masked officers entered his home by force, destroyed his front door, and handcuffed him. Despite not appearing on the list of men featured in the DHS press release on the raid, Botello was one of the men seen in handcuffs in the video of the raid posted by Noem, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Secretary Noem stated that their work is only beginning in Chicago. The Trump administration has been seeking military assistance for its crackdown on immigrants in the Chicago area, and the expansion of ICE's presence is expected to intensify these efforts. The operation serves to highlight the administration's focus on removing violent offenders from the streets, with arrests for assault, DUI, and felony stalking in Chicago as part of the operation's results.
