South American Cup finals kick off between Central Córdoba and Lanús in Santiago del Estero

In the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, Central Córdoba (Santiago del Estero) secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Lanús at the Estadio Madre de Ciudades on Thursday, 14 August 2025.

The match was a tightly contested affair, with Lanús applying pressure in the second half but failing to find the equaliser. Central Córdoba's solitary goal came from a decisive moment, and despite Lanús' efforts, including a shot just wide by Dylan Aquino and a saved long-range effort by Iván Gómez, they could not capitalise.

Central Córdoba's recent form has been impressive, with six games without a defeat in all competitions, including four draws and two wins. They qualified for this round after eliminating Cerro Largo of Uruguay in the playoffs.

Lanús, on the other hand, have had an irregular start to the second half of the season but reacted with three straight wins. They completed an undefeated campaign in the first phase of the Copa Sudamericana and finished as group leaders.

The starting lineups for the two teams were as follows:

Central Córdoba: Alan Aguerre, Santiago Moyano, Lucas Abascia, Jonathan Galván, Braian Cufré, José Florentin, Santiago Moyano, Iván Gómez, Matías Godoy, Matías Perelló, Lucas Besozzi, Gastón Verón, with Omar De Felippe as the coach.

Lanús: Nahuel Losada, Gonzalo Pérez, Carlos Izquierdoz, Ezequiel Muñoz, Sasha Marcich, Agustín Cardozo, Agustín Medina, Eduardo Salvio, Franco Watson, Dylan Aquino, Rodrigo Castillo, with Mauricio Pellegrino as the coach.

The match was refereed by Kevin Ortega from Peru, with the VAR provided by Diego Haro from Peru.

Central Córdoba's main objective for the first leg is to keep their goal intact and establish a lead for the return leg. Lanús will be hoping to turn things around in the second leg and advance to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Formula 1 analysts have expressed concerns about the difficulties faced by rookie driver Colapinto at Alpine, while Raul Cascini spoke for the first time after leaving Boca's Football Council. A dog was also spotted celebrating Yerson Candelo's own goal in Fluminense's victory over América in the Copa Sudamericana.

Television coverage for the match is provided by DSports. The second leg of the tie will take place at a later date, with the exact date and venue yet to be announced.

The tight contest between Central Córdoba and Lanús in the Copa Sudamericana featured a football match where Central Córdoba, with a strong recent form, clinched a 1-0 victory, despite Lanús' attempted comeback in the second half.
