South African batsman Brevis sets a new record with a monumental ton, equalizing the T20 series.

In the world of T20 international cricket, a new star has emerged for South Africa, and his name is Dewald Brevis. At just 22 years old, Brevis set the stage ablaze during the second T20I against Australia in August 2025, smashing an unbeaten 125* off 56 balls, a record-breaking performance that surpassed Faf du Plessis's previous highest individual score of 119 in 2015.

Born in April 2003, Brevis is a right-handed batsman and an occasional leg-spin bowler who plays domestically for the Titans and in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. Known for his explosive batting style, Brevis has already made a name for himself with records such as the highest individual T20 score in South Africa and the fastest 150 in T20 cricket in South Africa.

The match against Australia saw Brevis in top form, exhibiting aggressive hitting and skillful strokeplay that earned comparisons to the legendary AB de Villiers. His innings were marked by eight mighty sixes, and he surpassed his previous highest T20 international score of 41.

The South African team struggled in the opening game without several key batsmen, but Brevis's performance provided a much-needed boost. He formed a 126-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs, helping South Africa to a total of 218-7.

In the bowling department, Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis picked up two wickets each, while Corbin Bosch and Kwena Maphaka claimed three apiece. Australia's opener, Travis Head, was dismissed for a mere five runs. Aiden Markram scored a sublime boundary off the first ball of the innings but was dismissed by Glenn Maxwell for 18 runs.

The series-decider will be played in the Queensland city of Cairns on Saturday, and with Brevis's recent form, South Africa will be hoping for a repeat performance. Brevis's emergence in the South African cricket team is seen as a new era, with him recently receiving his One Day International cap, an indicator of his rising prominence in South African cricket.

In the realm of international sports, the South African cricket team looks towards Africa for its new era, led by Dewald Brevis, who showcased his talents in T20 cricket against Australia. Born on the continent, Brevis now plays domestically for Titans and in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings, specializing in aggressive batting reminiscent of AB de Villiers.
