This week, we're diving into the debut mystery of Lake Tahoe - 'Tragedy in Tahoe' by Rachele Baker. Check out our exclusive interview with the author, details on how to win a signed copy and a link to purchase the book at the end.

Tragedy in Tahoe: A Captivating Lake Tahoe Mystery

Review by Tracy C

Welcome to the stunning lakefront setting of Lake Tahoe, where the beauty of the region comes alive in this exciting series opener. When Rylie, a displaced vet due to a wildfire, finds herself jobless and working as a temporary caretaker at Whitaker Cottages, she stumbles upon a murder mystery within her first day on the job.

Colin Matthews, owner of Butter Lane Bakery, is found dead in the Absinthe Room, an underground tunnel hideaway. Rylie's involvement in the case is confusing, as she's never met Colin, yet finds his information in her pocket. Why did Colin have her details? How did he obtain them? And what exactly did he want to discuss with her? Both Rylie and detective (let's call him, Mark) Felton, are hungry for answers.

This engaging cozy novel checks all the boxes - from clever sleuthing to charming small-town camaraderie. Rylie quickly makes friends with fellow cottage managers, Liam and Gillian, who trade tips between them and even join forces in their own investigations. With the potential for bad publicity and cancelled reservations, Rylie and her pup Bella pitch in to solve the crime.

Boasting a colorful cast of suspects, from Thomas the groundskeeper to Aidan, the hot-tempered husband, Rylie must unravel the web of clues to clear her name. With twists and turns around every corner, Rylie's adventure continues in book two, 'Vengeance in the Vines.'

Interview with Rachele Baker:

KRL: What inspired you to write 'Tragedy in Tahoe?'

Rachele: Lake Tahoe holds a special place in my heart, as I once lived there, and the idea for 'Tragedy in Tahoe' came while taking a tour of the Thunderbird Lodge. Upon seeing the Opium Room, I could picture a mystery unfolding, and that was the spark that ignited my writing journey.

KRL: Did you always plan to set your cozy mystery series in Lake Tahoe?

Rachele: I chose Lake Tahoe as the setting for a number of reasons. First, I have personal connections to the area, making it familiar ground for me as an author. But beyond that, the beautiful landscapes, scenic lakeside communities, and small-town vibes provide the perfect backdrop for a cozy mystery series.
