Sony World Photography Awards 2026 Announced
The Sony World Photography Awards, a renowned platform for photographers worldwide, is set to return for its 19th edition. Established in 2007, this prestigious event showcases the defining images of contemporary photography and provides international exposure and recognition for photographers.
This year's exhibition will take place at Somerset House, London from April 17 to May 04, 2026. The event will also tour internationally, with presentations in Tokyo and Milan, followed by Berlin, Germany.
The Professional Competition will be chaired by Monica Allende, who is returning for her second year in this role. She will be joined by a jury consisting of Daniel Brena, Yumi Goto, Zack Hatfield, Paul Ninson, and Bindi Vora. Monica Allende is known for her curatorial work, and her contribution to the London exhibition is highly anticipated.
Ruby Rees-Sheridan will judge the Open and Youth competitions. Tess Raimbeau will oversee the Student competition.
Sony photographer, filmmaker, creative director, and writer Kalum Carter, with over 10 years of experience in visual storytelling, will once again be a part of the Awards. His work highlights the power of visual storytelling and fosters an appreciation for the impact of photography.
Last year, Zed Nelson won the Photographer of the Year title. However, the Photographer of the Year for 2026 has not yet been announced. Submissions for the Professional competition are due by January 13, 2026, and the winner will likely be revealed after that date. The deadline for Open and Youth categories is January 06, 2026, and for the Student category, it is November 28, 2025. Notably, entry to the Awards is free and photographers are judged anonymously.
Winners of the Awards will receive digital imaging equipment from Sony, along with cash prizes. The Photographer of the Year will receive $25,000, the Open Photographer of the Year will receive $5,000, and there is a $5,000 Sustainability Prize. The Photographer of the Year will also receive a solo presentation in the following year's London exhibition.
