Sony Pictures Preserves Sanford Panitch as President, Announces Significant Advancements as Josh Greenstein Departs

After the departure of Josh Greenstein from Sony's Motion Picture Group to join Paramount, Sanford Panitch has taken on the sole presidency of the group, consolidating his leadership role under Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman.

In the wake of this change, several key roles and promotions have been announced. Peter Kang has been promoted to President of Production for Columbia Pictures, where he will oversee day-to-day production and development operations. Kang, who joined Sony in 2019, played a significant role in launching Sony's collaboration with PlayStation Productions. He will report directly to Panitch alongside Andrea Giannetti.

Giannetti, a 35-year veteran of the company, has been promoted to Executive Vice President (EVP) of Production and Senior Creative at Columbia Pictures. She has overseen the production of films like the newest "Jumanji" films and "It Ends With Us." Kang and Giannetti will continue to report to Panitch.

The marketing leadership remains stable, with Danielle Misher continuing as head of theatrical marketing and Steven O’Dell as president of international marketing and distribution. Nicholas Weiss and Dave Fruchbom have been elevated to co-heads of global creative and strategy, reporting to Danielle Misher and collaborating on international marketing efforts with Steven O’Dell.

These adjustments reflect a restructuring aimed at maintaining stability and strengthening management after Greenstein’s exit. Panitch expressed his excitement about working with Kang and Giannetti, stating they have a lot of big event movies moving down the pipeline.

Sony's upcoming film slate includes Darren Aronofsky's crime thriller "Caught Stealing," the sequel "28 Years Later: Bone Temple," Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," and a new "Jumanji" installment.
