Sonu Shivdasani’s Sosei redefines luxury with Japanese-inspired wellness retreats
A new luxury wellness brand called Sosei has launched under the leadership of Sonu Shivdasani, the founder of Six Senses and Soneva. The company, whose name means 'rebirth' in Japanese, will focus on mental health, well-being, and mindful hospitality. Its philosophy is rooted in omotenashi, the Japanese tradition of warm, thoughtful service.
Sosei was officially founded in 2025, with its first projects announced during the HICAP events. Unlike Shivdasani’s earlier beach-focused resorts, this venture will open in both remote and urban settings. Early locations include the Arctic Circle, the European Alps, South Africa, and Japan.
With its focus on mental well-being and mindful design, Sosei enters the luxury market as a distinct alternative. The company’s investor structure and Shivdasani’s leadership suggest a slower, more deliberate growth strategy. Initial openings will test whether travellers embrace this blend of Japanese-inspired hospitality and wellness-focused travel.
