Son's murder and dismemberment confessed by mother in collaboration with daughter-in-law

In a shocking turn of events, Lorena Venier, the mother, has confessed to murdering and dismembering her 35-year-old son Alessandro with the alleged help of his wife, Mailyn Castro Monsalvo. Venier admitted to the crime, stating that she feared Alessandro would take Mailyn and their baby to Colombia, where she believed they would be in serious danger.

The crime took place in a residential setting in Gemona del Friuli, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, on the night of July 25, 2021. Mailyn Castro Monsalvo is currently being investigated for instigation to murder and is held in a prison for mothers on the island of Giudecca.

According to Venier's statement to police, she and Mailyn had planned the murder over several months. They allegedly gave Alessandro a glass of lemonade laced with a sedative and insulin, rendering him unconscious. After suffocating him with a pillow and strangling him with shoelaces, they dismembered his body.

Once dismembered, Alessandro's remains were transported to the garage by Mailyn Castro Monsalvo. In the garage, she covered the remains with lime to try to disguise the odor of decomposition. Venier claimed that Mailyn only transported the remains, and she was responsible for the killing.

The tragic case has shocked the local community in Gemona del Friuli. Alessandro had a history of drug and alcohol problems and was reportedly abusive towards both Lorena Venier and Mailyn Castro Monsalvo.

No new public information from official investigations beyond these confessions and the prosecution’s ongoing process has been reported as of August 20, 2021. The crime was reported by Italian news agencies ANSA, L'Unione Sarda, and the Daily Mail. Lorena Venier has been charged with murder and concealing a corpse.
