Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager and the former stepson of country superstar Reba McEntire, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48. His death was the result of a three-year battle with melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer.
Blackstock and his son Seth, shared a deep bond, as evidenced by multiple photos of them tending to livestock, at rodeo competitions, and spending quality time together. This close relationship was on display even in the face of Blackstock's illness, with Seth describing him as his father, best friend, and hero in an emotional tribute on social media.
Blackstock's family was by his side at his home in Butte, Montana, when he passed away under hospice care. The news of his death was announced a day later on August 7, with the family expressing gratitude for thoughts and prayers and requesting privacy during this difficult period.
Kelly Clarkson, Blackstock's ex-wife, focused on co-parenting their two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9, during this time. Clarkson revealed that Blackstock's illness forced her to postpone the remaining dates on her Las Vegas residency in August.
Reba McEntire, Blackstock's stepmother, shared a heartfelt letter on Instagram, calling him "one of a kind," reflecting on their bond and expressing that his struggle was over and he was now at peace in God's presence. Shelby Blackstock, Brandon's brother, also expressed the profound loss their family suffered and how deeply he will be missed.
Brandon Blackstock was married twice, first to Melissa Ashworth, with whom he had two children, Savannah, 23, and Seth, 19. He was also married to Kelly Clarkson, and they shared two children together. Blackstock was last pictured with his family at the Houston Rodeo in March of this year.
