Sonora celebrates high school's historic back-to-back state championships

Sonora High School’s Wildcats have secured their second straight state football championship. The team celebrated in downtown Sonora with a parade featuring the marching band, cheerleaders, and local law enforcement. Their undefeated season capped off a dominant run through a tough schedule.

The Wildcats finished the year without a single loss. Their last defeat came in October 2023, but this season, they overpowered every opponent. Known for their physical style and 'Mountain Misery' home-field advantage, the team earned respect for playing hard but fair.

Junior tackle Ezekiel Orweller stood out by contributing on both offense and defense. His versatility helped the Wildcats maintain their winning streak. Another key player, running back Lemar Vaughn, has been on the field since elementary school. His grandmother, Debi Grahek, has followed his career from the very beginning. The victory parade saw players riding on the back of a semi-truck. Fans lined the streets as the team showcased their back-to-back championship trophies. The celebration marked another historic moment for Sonora High School football.

The Wildcats now hold two consecutive state titles. Their undefeated record and relentless play have set a high standard for the programme. With another championship secured, the team looks ahead to defending their crown next season.
