Scary Spice Mel B spills the beans on an unbelievable writing spot for the Spice Girls' smash hit, Wannabe. On a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Mel B dropped a bombshell about the 1996 earworm's creation.

The 49-year-old candidly admitted that she penned the rap section of the iconic tune in a rather peculiar place. You guessed it, right in the loo!

Explaining her bizarre writing choice, the American singer chuckled, "I thought I was a rapper back then," and with a touch of humor, quipped, "Clearly not." Embracing the quirky moment, she added, "But I was in my own world, and you know, I own it."

Dishing out more, she shared that her version of the rap is fondly known as the "Leeds rap," hinting at its connection to her hometown, Leeds[3][4]. This isn't the first time Mel B has shared intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpses of Wannabe.

In January 2024, during her appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna, she fondly reminisced about the "gibberish" lyrics of the song. Although she couldn't tell its meaning, Mel B emphasized it remains a "group secret" only known to the Spice Girls bandmates Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm, Victoria Beckham, producers Matt Rowe, and Richard Stannard[1].
