Song Creation Seminar: FAWM 2019 - An Opportunity to Compose Tunes

The February Album Writing Month (FAWM) is an annual free online songwriting workshop that invites participants from around the world to embark on a 28-day creative marathon. Founded by Burr Settles, this event has become a notable fixture in the songwriting community, challenging musicians to write and complete 14 songs within the month of February.

FAWM is more than just a productivity challenge; it's a communal event that nurtures creativity, artistic growth, and connection with other musicians. Participants engage with each other online, sharing work, offering feedback, and encouraging creativity. The event also leverages platforms like Instagram, where many songwriters post snippets, share their experiences, and celebrate their songwriting freedom.

The challenge is designed to push songwriters out of their comfort zones, often using creative prompts and themes to spark fresh ideas. For instance, in 2025, participants were asked to write around incorrect idioms. While the goal is 14 songs, the challenge is often personalised, with some participants exceeding the goal or altering the process to suit their songwriting phases.

FAWM acts as a platform for participants to showcase their finished songs, with some works even making it into albums. One such example is Matt Blick's song 'John Lennon Blues', written during FAWM 2018, which was well-received and included in an album.

Participating in FAWM is recommended for this year, as it offers an opportunity to meet songwriters from all over the world, overcome procrastination in certain aspects of songwriting, and be part of a spirited, supportive community. Users can access a profile on the FAWM website to interact with other participants.

The FAWM workshop is open to all, regardless of location, making it an inclusive event for musicians worldwide. For more information and to join the community, visit the FAWM website or read the latest post about FAWM 2019 on The Lyric Writer's Workroom. Let the songwriting begin!

During FAWM, participants share their songwriting experiences on platforms like Instagram, merging fashion-and-beauty with creativity. The event also fosters a vibrant community where musicians collaborate and exchange ideas, making it an ideal platform for entertainment and blues music.
