Son of Sally Field expresses strong disdain towards Kim Davis, labelling her as a 'repulsive woman' for advocating to reverse same-sex marriages
Kim Davis, the former Kentucky clerk who made headlines in 2015 for refusing to grant same-sex marriage licenses and serving jail time as a result, is back in the spotlight. Davis has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review her appeal seeking to overturn the compensation ordered against her for her actions.
The petition, filed in 2025, argues that the Supreme Court should reconsider and overturn its 2015 landmark ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. The Supreme Court will review whether to accept Davis' appeal during a private conference scheduled for fall 2025.
Notably, the Supreme Court previously rejected Davis' petition in 2019 to dismiss the damages suit. However, the Court's composition has shifted rightward since, and Davis references dissenting opinions from Chief Justice Roberts and suggests a similar approach to the abortion ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization for the Court to reconsider marriage rights.
While Davis' case is under active consideration, many legal experts view the likelihood of the Court overturning same-sex marriage rights through this case as low. The Court must have at least four votes to grant review and five votes to overturn Obergefell, and Davis' case does not present a circuit split or clean legal question.
Meanwhile, Sam Greisman, the youngest son of pop icon Cher and a film producer, has been in the news for his tweets about Davis' return to the headlines. Greisman, who is gay, expressed displeasure about Davis' actions and referred to her as "hideous." His publicist commented that Greisman's tweet does not deserve a response.
In a separate development, Cher opened up about how having children, specifically her first son Peter, helped her feel less alone and gave her a sense of purpose. She made this statement during an appearance on Julia Louis-Dreyfus' podcast, "Wiser Than Me," in 2024. Cher has three sons: Sam Greisman (37), Peter Craig (55), and Elliot Craig (53).
