Son departing from Spurs, according to declaration
Son Heung-min Bids Farewell to Tottenham, Heads to LAFC in Record-Breaking Transfer
Son Heung-min, a Spurs legend and one of the best wingers in Premier League history, has officially left Tottenham Hotspur after a decade at the club. His next destination is Major League Soccer (MLS) and LAFC, in a transfer deal reportedly worth around $26 million.
The South Korean international played his final game for Spurs on August 3rd, 2025, captaining the side in a friendly against Newcastle that ended 1-1. He received heartfelt tributes from players and fans alike, marking the end of a highly successful ten-year tenure in the Premier League.
Son's departure comes after a series of significant events at the club. After Harry Kane's departure to Bayern Munich in 2023, Son was made captain by Ange Postecoglou. The duo, along with other players, formed a formidable attacking partnership that helped Tottenham reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019, where they lost to Liverpool.
Son's 333 Premier League appearances are the second-most in the club's history, trailing only Hugo Lloris (361). He is also No. 5 on Tottenham's all-time goalscoring list, led by Harry Kane (280 goals).
Thomas Frank, Son's former coach, paid tribute to the winger, calling him a Spurs legend and one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League as a winger. Frank succeeded Postecoglou as head coach in June.
Despite the team's recent success and the feeling of achieving everything at Tottenham, Son stated that the team's success and the desire for a new environment contributed to his decision to seek a new challenge. He has not decided on his next club but stated that the World Cup is his No. 1 priority for his home country.
The LAFC team currently sits in sixth place in the MLS Western Conference as of early August 2025, anticipating Son’s official unveiling and integration into the squad imminently. The transfer either completed or imminent as of early August 2025, ends Son’s highly successful ten-year tenure in the Premier League.
