Solingen's Firefighters Brave Storm, Clear Fallen Trees
Solingen's fire department braved challenging conditions yesterday, responding to multiple incidents caused by severe weather. Strong winds and heavy rain led to numerous trees falling across the city, blocking paths and endangering traffic.
The German Weather Service's warning of gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour proved accurate, presenting a significant challenge for the fire department. Trees fell on several streets, including Mohnweg, Hasselstraße, Roggenkamp, Altehofer Straße, and Dültgenstraße, causing obstructions and potential hazards.
Firefighters swiftly deployed, using chain saws to clear the Corkscrew Trail, a popular recreational path for pedestrians and cyclists, after a tree fell across it. They also navigated through wet foliage on Dültgenstraße to ensure safety and accessibility. The local municipal public works and forestry department assisted in removing fallen trees from other affected areas.
The Solingen fire department's prompt response and collaboration with other local services helped mitigate the impact of the storm. Despite the challenging conditions, they successfully cleared paths and ensured the safety of residents and visitors. The city urges caution during future storms and reminds residents to report any fallen trees or related issues.
