Solingen Mayor Race: CDU Candidate Daniel Flemm Announces Plans for Structural Economic Planning

In the upcoming 2025 mayoral election in Solingen, Daniel Flemm, a long-standing member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has declared his candidacy and outlined his plans for immediate structural economic planning.

Born and raised in Solingen, Flemm has been a member of the CDU since 2007. He studied at the Friedrich-List-Berufskolleg and has a background in business administration, law, and politics, with professional experience as a corporate customer advisor and head of finance in a start-up. Flemm has been a city councillor in Solingen since 2012 and has been chairman of the CDU city council group since 2020.

Flemm's campaign focuses on making Solingen a better city every day. He plans to commit himself with all his strength and passion to address the challenges Solingen faces, including issues with safety, jobs, education, traffic infrastructure, and city society.

One of Flemm's key concerns is the administration, particularly the Solingen City Development Company (SEG) and the Economic Development of Solingen. He intends to examine "dual structures" in these areas, with the aim of improving efficiency and effectiveness.

If elected, Flemm plans to take immediate action in his first 100 days, including a significant reduction in costs for personal marketing, bloated staff positions, and expensive reports. He also plans to prioritise the expansion of Open Extended Day (OGS) and kindergartens, with a goal to create 250 new places in a first step, addressing the current shortage of about 500 places in the OGS area.

The CDU has identified six key areas that need immediate attention: safety, job preservation and innovation, education and childcare, traffic infrastructure, city society, and administrative efficiency. They aim to implement a "politics of renewal" with Flemm as the mayoral candidate. The party also plans to focus on the association and federation structure, and all individual measures in the Solingen city centre should be evaluated immediately.

If incumbent Mayor Tim Kurzbach decides to run for another term, Flemm will challenge him. As of now, Flemm is the first candidate for the mayoral election, scheduled for September 2025. For more detailed information about Flemm’s campaign and proposals for Solingen’s 2025 mayoral election, consider checking local news sources, official CDU regional websites, or Solingen’s municipal government publications.
