Solidarity Action "2x Christmas" Starts

A new solidarity campaign called Double Christmas has launched in Switzerland to support people struggling with poverty. The initiative, running until 18 January, will collect food and hygiene supplies for those in need across the country.

The campaign kicks off on Wednesday, with volunteers assembling packages of essential items. These include long-life foods like muesli, jam, spreads, baby food, tea, coffee, and oil. All donated food must have at least six months of shelf life remaining.

Hygiene products are also urgently needed, with toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwash among the most requested items. The effort is a joint project by SRG, Swiss Post, Coop, and the Swiss Red Cross. To make donations easier, Swiss Post will accept *Double Christmas* packages without charge. Alternatively, pre-made packages can be bought at selected Coop stores. Once collected, the Red Cross will distribute the supplies nationwide. The initiative comes as poverty remains a pressing issue in Switzerland. A single person is classified as poor if their monthly income falls below 2,315 Swiss francs.

The Double Christmas campaign aims to provide immediate relief to those facing financial hardship. Donations will be gathered until mid-January, with the Red Cross ensuring supplies reach communities across Switzerland. The effort builds on a similar 2025 project by the German aid group Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
