German Authorities Conduct Raids Against Suspected Right-wing Extremist Group

In a significant development, German authorities have launched a series of raids across Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, and North Rhine-Westphalia. The investigations are being led by the Central Office for Combating Terrorism of the General Public Prosecutor's Office in Celle and are connected to previous investigations into the suspected right-wing extremist group "Nordbund."

Eight individuals, aged between 32 and 57, are suspected of forming and participating in an armed group based on suspected right-wing extremist beliefs. Among the accused are two active and two former soldiers from the German Armed Forces, a federal police officer, and several others. Four of the accused are also suspected of illegally possessing war weapons and other fully automatic firearms.

During the raids, several live short and long firearms, among other items, were seized. However, no weapons among those seized fall under the War Weapons Control Act, according to a preliminary assessment by the State Criminal Police Office.

The investigations focus on the evaluation of electronic data carriers and detailed weapons law assessments. The General Public Prosecutor's Office in Celle confirmed the information upon request but declined to answer further questions, citing ongoing investigations.

One of the accused had a pistol with ammunition seized from them by the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office at the end of April. The search results do not provide the names of the four accused ex-soldiers of the Bundeswehr.

The Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office is cooperating in the investigations. The General Public Prosecutor's Office declined to answer further questions, citing ongoing investigations, a fact mentioned earlier. The investigations are a reminder of the ongoing efforts by German authorities to combat extremism and maintain public safety.
