Softball Tournament Victory: La Mirada's Peaking Performance in La Mirada Softball Classic, triumphing over California in the semifinals

La Mirada High's softball team is gearing up for an exciting stretch of Gateway League action, with their next matchup scheduled against Paramount High on Tuesday, April 27.

The Matadores have shown resilience throughout the season, as evidenced by their recent 4-3 extra inning victory over California High on April 22. In this game, sophomore pitcher Alison Ortega stepped up, throwing 125 pitches and striking out nine batters to secure the win.

The game was a tight one, with La Mirada taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, only to see California High tie it up in the next. The decisive moment came in the ninth inning, with runners at first and second and none out. Ortega managed to get three consecutive outs, securing the victory for La Mirada High.

However, the team's winning streak was snapped by Orange Lutheran High in a separate game on the same day.

Prior to this, La Mirada High participated in the Boras Baseball Classic, where they were previously eliminated by Mater Dei High in an 11-inning game. They also faced challenges in the Boras Classic in 2023 and 2024, losing to Huntington Beach and Maranatha High, respectively.

Despite these setbacks, La Mirada High has had a strong 2025 season, with a record of 25-5 and significant offensive production, according to the final California high school softball rankings. The competitive nature of the season and regional playoffs that concluded by early June highlighted the team's prowess.

Recent La Mirada High graduate Angelyna Conde, a standout player, continued her competitive play beyond the high school season, participating in late summer travel softball tournaments, including the Triple Crown Sports International Challenge in early July, where she performed well and contributed to Team Mexico's success.

As the regular season winds down, La Mirada High has one more game to play before the playoffs begin. The final regular season game will be on May 6, 2025, at Mayfair High. The team will be hosting Gahr High on Thursday, April 29, with the league title on the line, providing an opportunity to regain their winning form before the playoffs.

With their strong offensive production and resilient spirit, La Mirada High's softball team is poised to make a strong showing in the playoffs.
