Socialist Mayor Antonio Valverde steps down from his 22-year tenure in Salteras
**Antonio Valverde Steps Down After 22 Years as Mayor of Salteras**
After an impressive 22-year tenure, Antonio Valverde Macías, a graduate in Law and an Expert in High Management of Social Institutions, has announced his retirement as the mayor of Salteras, a municipality in Sevilla, Spain.
During his two decades in office, Valverde has been instrumental in driving significant improvements in the town's infrastructure and services. Notable achievements include the modernization of streets and squares, the creation of new educational spaces, the promotion of culture, the improvement of sports facilities, the expansion of green areas, and the construction of equipment such as the municipal crematorium.
Valverde's management model has focused on social cohesion, economic sustainability, and collective well-being. He has prioritized aid to families and those in need, local employment promotion, and responsible management of public resources. His commitment to community health and sports infrastructure has left a tangible impact on Salteras' development.
One of his most significant projects was a six-million-euro sports complex aimed at boosting the physical and mental health of the town’s residents, reflecting his administration's emphasis on improving quality of life through health-oriented urban development.
Valverde has also navigated various challenges typical for long-standing local governments, addressing issues within public services, although such matters are common in municipal management and extend beyond his direct control.
In his farewell letter to the citizens and staff of the Town Hall, Valverde expressed full confidence in the Government team, describing them as "a committed, solvent, and prepared group". He assured that he will remain linked to the life of the municipality as a "neighbor, friend, and comrade" after leaving the mayoral office.
The new mayor will be elected after an extraordinary plenary session of the socialist ranks, which governs the Town Hall of Salteras with seven councilors. The PP has five councilors, and Vox, one, in the Town Hall of Salteras.
Valverde began his tenure in 2003 and will end in 2025. He is currently on leave from Heineken Spain, a company where he began working in 1984. Between 2011 and September 2023, Valverde was a member of the Consejo Territorial de la Propiedad Inmobiliaria de Sevilla as a councilor. Since 2011, he has been a councilor of Aljarafesa, where he currently continues as the first vice-president.
Valverde emphasized the importance of culture, traditions, and sports in fostering unity and pride in Salteras. He expressed gratitude to the entire citizenship for their support during his 22 years of public service.
