In the heart of Lower Saxony, farmer Iris Tapphorn of Lohne is making waves in the agricultural community. Recently, she was featured on the popular podcast 'Hotel Matze', where she discussed the challenges and rewards of goose breeding, and her mission to bridge the gap between city and country.

Matze Hielscher, the podcaster, visited Iris's farm and was surprised by the complexity of goose farming. During their conversation, they touched upon political framework conditions, increasing bureaucracy, and creating understanding between urban society and farmers. Topics such as circular economy, animal welfare, criticism, agricultural transformation, political engagement, justice, and trust in farmers were all part of the discussion.

Iris highlighted the daily pressure farmers face to produce high-quality food despite competition from abroad and New York City expectations. She sees it as her task to strengthen the connection between city and country, educating city dwellers about the importance of agriculture and the hard work that goes into supplying cities with food.

Reactions to the conversation in social media were mixed, but overwhelmingly positive. Many people expressed gratitude for getting to know agriculture from the perspective of a farmer through the podcast. However, Iris has faced hate comments and threats online, with some going as far as calling her a 'goose murderer' and threatening symbolic or even physical violence.

Despite these negative experiences, Iris wants to continue to speak out publicly and engage in social media. She believes it's important to address the misconceptions and misunderstandings about farming and to promote a more positive image of the industry.

Despite the challenges, Iris remains committed to her work and her mission. Agriculture is a vital part of our society, and it's essential that we bring more awareness to the connection between city and country. As Iris continues to advocate for farmers and promote understanding, we can all learn more about the industry and the people who make our food possible.
