Sochi's Iconic Metallurg Sanatorium Prepares for 70th Anniversary Upgrades
Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin visited the Metallurg Sanatorium ahead of the summer season. The historic health resort is preparing to mark its 70th anniversary this year. During the visit, the mayor reviewed upgrades and discussed future plans with the facility's leadership.
The Metallurg Sanatorium, a neoclassical landmark near the Matsesta mineral springs, first opened its doors in 1956. Construction began five years earlier, making it one of Sochi's oldest health resorts. Today, over 90% of its rooms are occupied by guests.
This year, the sanatorium completed a cosmetic refresh of its interiors and replaced furniture in guest rooms. Mayor Proshunin toured key medical areas, including the balneotherapy department and the Plastunskaya mineral water pavilion. Officials also shared plans for a new dry carbonic and ozone bath therapy room. Sochi currently hosts 52 health resorts and sanatoriums. The Metallurg remains a prominent destination, known for its mineral spring treatments and historic architecture.
The mayor's visit highlighted ongoing improvements at the Metallurg Sanatorium. With new therapy facilities in development, the resort aims to enhance its services before the summer rush. The anniversary celebrations will coincide with the peak tourist season.
