Sochi's aquaculture boom wins awards and breaks production records in 2025
Sochi's aquaculture sector saw major growth in 2025, with record production and industry awards. Local farms expanded output by over 120%, while key enterprises earned regional recognition for excellence in trout breeding and fishing.
Three Sochi-based businesses won top honours at Krasnodar Region's 2025 Livestock and Fisheries Excellence Awards. Chernomorskaya Forel claimed both 'Best Fish Farm' and 'Best Fish Farmer', with Norik Simonyan named the region's leading fish farmer. Adler Trout Breeding Farm secured 'Best Livestock Breeding Enterprise' and 'Best Animal Breeding Specialist in Aquaculture', the latter awarded to Yana Kondratenko. Meanwhile, IP Tselovalnikov saw its coastal fishing foreman, Mokhav Ovsyannik, recognised as 'Best Fishing Brigade Leader' after the company harvested over 70 metric tons of aquatic bio-resources.
The Adler Trout Breeding Farm played a pivotal role in the sector's expansion. In 2025, it registered six new trout strains in Russia's State Register of Approved Breeding Achievements. This followed the addition of six trout farms to the national register, enabling Adler to supply fertilised eggs or juveniles to 12 extra regions within Russia and the CIS. The farm now distributes its stock to 61 Russian regions and four CIS countries. Production surged across the board. Sochi enterprises collectively produced 2,150 metric tons of trout—a 127% increase from 2024. **Chernomorskaya Forel** alone accounted for 1,792 metric tons of that total, marking a significant rise in output and sales.
The awards and production figures highlight Sochi's growing influence in Russia's aquaculture industry. With expanded breeding programmes and higher yields, the region's trout farms are now supplying markets nationwide and beyond. The sector's rapid growth has also brought wider recognition for local specialists and enterprises.
