Sochi Braces for Dangerous Winter Storm With Icy Winds and Freezing Roads
Sochi is preparing for intense winter weather as frigid temperatures and gusty winds move into the area. Meteorologists warn of treacherous conditions from December 13 through December 14, with emergency services already on alert.
Powerful westerly and northwesterly winds will lash the region overnight on December 13, reaching gusts of 15–18 m/s. The cold snap will send temperatures plummeting to -1°C (30°F), creating icy roads and increasing the risk of black ice.
The combination of icy winds, slippery roads, and rough seas will keep Sochi under strain for two days. Officials have already implemented restrictions on mountain travel and advised residents to take precautions. The weather is expected to improve after December 14.
