Sochi battles heavy rain as flood risks rise across coastal regions
Heavy rain has struck Sochi and surrounding areas, with forecasts warning of continued downpours until late evening. Local authorities have placed emergency services on high alert as rising water levels and worsening conditions raise concerns.
Since early today, rainfall has varied across the region. Lazarevskoye recorded the highest totals at 39 mm, while Sochi saw 25 mm and Sirius 15 mm. In the foothills of Lazarevsky District, up to 33 mm fell, with Rosa Khutor receiving 8 mm. Mountainous zones have also faced sleet, complicating travel.
River levels have climbed by 0.1 to 0.4 metres, heightening flood risks. Sea conditions have deteriorated to Force 4 on the Beaufort scale, prompting warnings for small vessels. Officials urge residents and tourists to avoid private trips into the mountains and stay vigilant.
