In a heartbreaking turn of events, Diogo Jota, the 28-year-old Portuguese footballer who played for Liverpool FC, has tragically passed away following a car accident in the province of Zamora, Spain.

The incident occurred on the A-52 highway near the Zamorana region of Sanabria. According to reports, the vehicle Jota was travelling in, along with his 26-year-old brother Andre (also a professional footballer), veered off the road and caught fire, leading to their fatalities. Jota, a forward for Liverpool FC, scored 47 goals in 123 appearances during his tenure at the club. He was a reference in his community, known for his contagious joy, according to Pedro Proença. His recent achievements include lifting the Premier League trophy with Liverpool FC less than two months ago, and helping Portugal's national team win the Nations League last month.

Portugal's soccer federation also lamented the deaths of Jota and his brother, with its President Pedro Proença describing Jota as an extraordinary person, respected by all his colleagues and opponents. In an unrelated incident, it was reported that dozens of people were injured after a driver plowed through a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans during a victory parade in Liverpool, United Kingdom. However, there is no information available regarding a separate vehicle incident involving Liverpool FC fans in Spain.

Jota is survived by his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their three children, the youngest born last year.
