In the heart of Altona, a vacant field is set to undergo a significant transformation. The future facility, planned to be completed in spring 2027, will be a state-of-the-art soccer complex, designed to cater to the growing demand for soccer in the town.

The idea for the facility stems from an urgent need in the Altona community, driven by the annual growth in soccer registration of 7-10%. This surge in interest is not just limited to the local population, as many newcomers to Altona, particularly those from smaller Manitoba communities, are familiar with the sport.

The new facility, spanning approximately six acres, will be a hub for soccer enthusiasts. It will feature two full-size competition-level pitches and additional practice spaces, ensuring ample opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.

Eric Hildebrand, Altona's recreation services manager, anticipates that the new facility will attract more tournaments to the town, boosting the local economy. The economic impact is estimated to be approximately 4,500 people strong, according to current projections.

Enns, a member of the soccer community, expresses his excitement for the project, hoping that the fields will be ready for action in spring 2027. The soccer program in Altona is seen as a way for newcomers to connect with the community, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging.

Fundraising efforts for the new fields will be a community-wide endeavour, with corporate sponsorship, individual donations, grants, and other means being utilised. The soccer community aims to raise $750,000 for the project, with the fields being volunteer-run and maintained.

The soccer fields will be built behind the Millennium Exhibition Centre, making them easily accessible for the community. As Altona is known for its giving nature, it is expected that people will step up to support the project.

Adult participation in soccer, including the women's league, has also been increasing, further emphasising the need for a dedicated facility. The new soccer fields in Altona are poised to become a beacon for the sport in the region, fostering a sense of community and boosting the local economy.
