Women's football team is taken aback by Gwinn's absence in their 2-0 victory over Poland - Soccer community reels in shock following Gwinn's loss during Poland's 2:0 victory.

In a disappointing turn of events for the German women's soccer team, captain Giulia Gwinn was forced to leave the Euro 2022 opening game against Poland due to a knee injury. The incident occurred during a collision with Poland's top scorer, Ewa Pajor, in the 36th minute of the game.

Gwinn was substituted off with the help of a team official, limping visibly. The injury has raised concerns among fans and teammates alike, as Gwinn has a history of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

In 2020, Gwinn tore her right ACL during a European Championship qualifier against Ireland, marking her first major career setback. After a long and challenging rehabilitation period, she made a strong comeback, winning two league titles and a German Cup with Bayern Munich. However, just over two years later, she tore her cruciate ligament in her left knee, which ruled her out of the 2023 World Cup.

Fortunately, Gwinn's right knee ACL injury occurred in 2020, which means she was able to recover in time for Euro 2022. She returned to international action in September 2023 and has since continued as captain of Germany and a key player for Bayern Munich.

The German team, which had shown some nervousness in the first half, played more confidently after the break. Jule Brand scored the first goal for Germany from 17 meters, making it 1:0. Lea Schüller then headed in a cross from Brand, making it 2:0. Sjoeke Nüsken had an opportunity to score the second goal for Germany with a header from close range, but her effort was just wide.

Carlotta Wamser replaced Gwinn as right-back after her injury. Janina Minge took over the captain's armband. The German women's soccer team, under the leadership of coach Sarina Wiegman, will play against Denmark on Tuesday at 6:00 PM and face Sweden four days later in Zurich. An MRI scan will be conducted to determine the extent of Gwinn's injury.

Poland's Ewa Pajor, a player from Barcelona, posed a threat in the German penalty area at the beginning of the game, but her pass was intercepted. The game was played in front of 15,972 spectators at the Arena St. Gallen, including 4,000 German fans.

The German team, despite the injury to their captain, showed resilience and determination, securing a 2:0 victory in their Euro 2022 opener. Fans and teammates will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Gwinn, who has proven to be a vital player for the team.

The Commission, in the midst of discussing sports-related matters, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation. In the world of football, both Gwinn and her team, though preoccupied with European leagues and championships like the Champions League, now face a more daunting challenge off the pitch—Gwinn's knee injury.
