Snowstorm sparks urgent de-icing salt shortage across the region

Heavy snow and icy conditions have put de-icing salt in high demand across the region. With supplies stretched thin, local authorities are preparing to treat the busiest roads first. Officials have warned residents to stay indoors as the storm continues.

Pallets of de-icing materials are already stored at the Public Works warehouse. More shipments are due in the next few days to restock dwindling reserves. Pearl Fire Chief Todd Burkes confirmed that de-icing operations would start as soon as weather conditions allow.

High-traffic routes will take priority for treatment. The exact locations of additional storage sites remain unclear, but crews are working to ensure supplies reach the worst-affected areas. Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel until roads are made safer.

Residents are being told to remain at home while the storm passes. De-icing teams will focus on keeping main roads clear, with further deliveries expected soon. The situation will be monitored closely as conditions develop.
