Brace Yourself, Berlin and Brandenburg Residents!
As the new week begins, residents in Berlin and Brandenburg must embrace the chilly weather, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). Frosty temperatures of -3 to -6 degrees Celsius, along with occasional icy spots in the morning, are forecasted.
Monday will mostly be cloudy with the occasional light snowfall in Prignitz and Havelland. Temperatures will remain below freezing, and a moderate wind will blow.
Tuesday will see an increase in cloud cover, especially in the Prignitz to Elbe-Elster district, with a predicted light snowfall. The mercury will drop to -3 to -6 degrees during the night. Prignitz to Elbe-Elsterkreis might also experience slippery conditions due to the risk of freezing rain.
Motorists in these areas should be cautious, as the risk of slippery roads is heightened. For Potsdam and Berlin, temperatures will rise slightly to -2 to +1 degrees, along with a stronger wind.
Insight:
The Weather Service's warnings come as the initial snowfall started on Thursday due to a cold front, with light flurries intensifying into heavy snowfall, known as Tief Max. Up to 10 cm of snow is expected to accumulate by Friday, adding to the already present icy conditions.
This weather has presented numerous challenges, including icy surfaces, severe cold, and hazardous road conditions. Public transport services, such as buses, have been temporarily halted, and minimal serious accidents have been reported.
Even with these challenges, authorities encourage residents to take special care, especially on Friday mornings, when roads are at their most treacherous due to the mix of early snowfall and low temperatures.
Prepare and Be Cautious
With the weather conditions as they are, it's essential to dress warmly, be vigilant on the roads, and take extra care when walking. Remember, your safety is crucial, so don't let the winter weather hold you back from achieving your goals.
