A New Peanuts Musical Celebrates the Legendary Snoopy

The world of Peanuts is about to be enlivened once more with the premiere of "Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical," an animated production set to air on Apple TV on August 15, 2025. This new musical pays tribute to the creator of Snoopy, Charles M. Schulz, who passed away in 2000, and the iconic beagle himself.

Snoopy, the little beagle purchased by Charlie Brown for five dollars, has come a long way since his humble beginnings. Initially, he was just another pet in the Peanuts comic strips, but over time, Snoopy developed human-like behaviors and a sarcastic personality, becoming a co-lead alongside Charlie Brown.

The first strip featuring Snoopy appeared on October 4, 1950, but it was on August 10, 1968, that he was given a birthday cake by Charlie Brown and Lucy, marking a significant milestone in Snoopy's evolution. One of Snoopy's most famous alter egos, the Red Baron, made its debut on October 10, 1965.

Snoopy's home, a doghouse, is a significant part of the Peanuts universe and can be seen at the Charles M. Schulz Museum. Inside, Snoopy's home houses a pile of valuable articles, including pool tables and Van Gogh paintings.

Charles M. Schulz had an estimated net worth of around $375 million, and his influence on popular culture is immeasurable. Schulz personally created every single Peanuts strip over nearly 50 years, developing minimalistic but expressive art and focusing on childlike perspectives without including adults in the storyline.

The new musical is set at a summer camp that's about to close due to lack of attendees. In this story, Snoopy and Woodstock discover a treasure map that leads them to a chest filled with instruments and photos of past concerts.

Craig Schulz, son of Charles M. Schulz, discusses the tribute to his father in the musical. "Dad was always about bringing joy and laughter to people through his work," Craig said. "This musical is a testament to that legacy and a reminder of the impact he had on so many lives."

Snoopy, the little beagle who started as just another pet, has become much more than that. He is a cultural icon, a symbol of imagination and whimsy within American pop culture. The new musical, "Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical," is just one more chapter in Snoopy's enduring legacy.
