Snoop Dogg's New Zealand concert has been cancelled for several days
In a surprising turn of events, rap legend Snoop Dogg has cancelled his one and only New Zealand show, which was scheduled for September 20, 2023. The cancellation comes following allegations of sexual assault against Pato Alvarez, the promoter of the show, which were reported by Stuff in the previous week.
Alvarez, who is the promoter for NZ Touring & Events Limited, was found guilty of two charges and sentenced to 12 months' home detention after a 12-week trial in 2023. He was acquitted of 23 charges, involving different complainants.
The event, which was billed as a double-whammy Snoop Dogg vs DJ Snoopadelic, was set to take place at Manukau's Due Drop Arena. Local hip hop legend Savage was set to open for Snoop Dogg.
The cancellation was announced by 4ward Entertainment via Instagram, with no further details provided about the event. All refunds for the cancelled show will be processed by Eventfinda.
It's worth noting that DJ Snoopadelic is Snoop Dogg's record-spinning alter-ego, and the rapper's team had contacted Alvarez for a special performance in New Zealand.
Snoop Dogg is still scheduled to appear at the 2025 AFL grand final on 27 September, marking a new chapter in his career after this unexpected turn of events in New Zealand.
