SNL's 50th: Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Reunite, Portray Bondi & Noem
Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special opening sketch featuring former cast members Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. In a surprise twist, Fey portrayed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, while Poehler took on the role of former Florida Attorney General and US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The sketch began with Poehler, as Bondi, strutting onto the stage and declaring, 'What's up, nerds? Furious to be here.' This was a playful reference to Bondi's real-life testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she defended Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial in 2020. Bondi, who served as Florida's Attorney General from 2011 to 2019, gained national prominence for her role in the trial and was later appointed US Attorney General in 2025.
Fey's portrayal of Noem, the current Homeland Security Secretary, was a surprise given Noem's relatively low profile compared to Bondi. However, Fey's comedic timing and Noem's political background made for an entertaining combination.
The sketch was a hit with the audience, who appreciated the nostalgia of seeing Poehler and Fey together again, as well as the humor derived from the political figures they portrayed. It was a fitting tribute to SNL's 50-year history of political satire and comedic genius.
