Sluice gates at Kaptai Dam have been reopened due to the approaching danger level of the lake's water.

The Kaptai Dam's sluice gates were reopened last night, releasing a significant amount of water into the Karnaphuli River. The 16 sluice gates were opened by six inches shortly after 8pm, according to Engineer Mahmud Hasan, the manager of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Power Station.

This action will release 9,000 cusecs of water per second from the Kaptai Lake into the Karnaphuli River. Additionally, an additional 32,000 cusecs of water is being released into the river for power generation.

The reopening of the sluice gates was due to the water level in the lake approaching its maximum capacity. Last night, the water level in the lake reached 108.35 MSL, nearing its full capacity of 109 MSL. This is the second time the gates have been opened this month.

Engineer Mahmud Hasan made the announcement about the water level on the Kaptai Karnaphuli Power Station's website. He also stated that the volume of water released may increase if the lake's water level continues to rise. However, no new information about the current water level was provided.

The water released from the Kaptai Lake is flowing into the Karnaphuli River, aiming to control potential floods in the lake's upstream areas. The opening of the sluice gates is a common measure taken when the water level in the lake reaches dangerously high levels.

Engineer Mahmud Hasan, the engineer and manager of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant, made the decision to reopen the sluice gates on August 20th. He has been managing the power station since its inception and has a wealth of experience in handling such situations.

No information about the potential impact of the high water level was provided in the statements. However, the Kaptai Karnaphuli Power Station and the Kaptai Dam's operations are closely monitored to ensure the safety and well-being of the surrounding communities and the environment.
