Slovenian national coach predicts that Primož Roglič could disrupt the competition in the World Championships final held in Rwanda.
Slovenia Eyeing Rainbow Jerseys at Road World Championships in Rwanda
The Road World Championships are set to take place in Rwanda, with Slovenia aiming to make a strong showing in the elite men's category. Uroš Murn, the Slovenian national coach, believes that his team is better prepared for this year's championships than they were last year.
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar is once again at the top of the favourites list. Pogačar will participate in the individual time trial on Sunday, September 21, a 40.6km route with 680 meters of climbing. Uroš Murn stated that the individual time trial will feature a duel between Pogačar and defending champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium, who is the top favourite for the world market individual time trial.
Pogačar has been in good form this year, recently taking second place behind UAE teammate Brandon McNulty at the GP Montréal. However, Evenepoel has been equally impressive, finishing several races ahead of Pogačar in recent months.
Slovenia's team strategy for the Road World Championships involves covering moves and aiming to place a rider in an early breakaway. Murn believes that Slovenia has a strong chance of taking home the elite men's rainbow jersey, with Pogačar and Uroš Murn mentioning that Matej Mohorič is also in good condition this year.
Attention will first turn to the individual time trial on September 21, with the Road World Championships following on September 28. The Road World Championships will be 267.5km long, making it a gruelling test for the riders.
Primož Roglič is another rider to watch at the Road World Championships. Roglič has completed a two-week altitude training camp before the championships and finished 22nd at the Donostia San Sebastián Klasikoa last month.
Uroš Murn stated that Slovenia's team this year is almost better prepared than last year, but he also believes that UAE Team Emirates and Belgium will be strong contenders for the rainbow jerseys. The Slovenian team will be looking to build on their success at the recent European Championships, where they won both the elite men's and women's road races.
With several top riders in good form and a well-prepared team, Slovenia will be hoping to make a strong showing at the Road World Championships in Rwanda. The individual time trial on September 21 will provide an early indication of Slovenia's chances, with the Road World Championships on September 28 set to be a thrilling conclusion to the season.
