Slovenian national coach anticipates Primož Roglič to create unpredictability in the final of the World Championships in Rwanda.
The Slovenian team is gearing up for the Road World Championships, set to take place in Kigali on September 28. According to national coach Uroš Murn, their strategy for the race is to cover moves and aim to place a rider in an early breakaway.
One rider missing from the Slovenian team is Jan Tratnik. However, the team remains strong, with defending champion Tadej Pogačar leading the charge. Pogačar, who took second place behind UAE teammate Brandon McNulty at the recent GP Montréal, is considered the first favorite to take home the elite men's rainbow jersey.
Murn has also named Primož Roglič as a potential game-changer in the Road World Championships. Roglič's most recent outing was at the Donostia San Sebastián Klasikoa last month, where he finished 22nd. Despite this, Murn believes Roglič will be well-prepared for the final stages of the competition, having completed a two-week altitude training camp.
Murn expects individual escapes from the start of the Road World Championships. In the individual time trial, scheduled for September 21, a duel between Belgian Remco Evenepoel and Pogačar is expected. Evenepoel is the top favourite for the individual time trial, but Pogačar has a chance on the 40.6km route, according to Murn.
Murn stated that Pogačar has proven his strength in recent races, including those in Canada. He also believes that Matej Mohorič, who is in the best condition this year, according to Murn, has a chance to win the individual time trial alongside Pogačar.
The Slovenian team has two other riders who are expected to perform well at the Road World Championships. Domen Novak and Gal Glivar successfully completed the Vuelta and are expected to be well-prepared for the competition.
Murn believes his elite men's team is better prepared for the Road World Championships than last year. He also stated that they will not attack as much as they did in Zürich. Instead, they will focus on covering moves and positioning their riders for a strong finish.
With a strong team and a well-thought-out strategy, the Slovenian team is poised to make a strong showing at the Road World Championships in Rwanda.
