Tour of Slovakia: Magnier Claims Fourth Consecutive Victory

Paul Magnier (Soudal-QuickStep) has secured his fourth consecutive victory at the Tour of Slovakia, following a hard-fought stage 4. The 169.1-kilometre race saw Milan Menten (Lotto) and Lukáš Kubiš (Unibet Tietema Rockets) complete the podium, finishing in third and second place respectively.

The stage did not significantly alter the general classification, with Kubiš maintaining his second position and Menten holding onto third. Oscar Nilsson-Julien (Groupama-FDJ Conti) moved into fourth after adding enough bonus seconds at the intermediate sprints.

The breakaway group, including Nilsson-Julien, was kept on a tight leash and never enjoyed more than a two-minute gap. Crosswinds picked up towards the end of the stage, causing two riders to crash in the chasing bunch.

The stage ended in a bunch sprint, with Magnier storming to the finish after latching onto Dries van Gestel's wheel. Andrea Raccagni, riding for Soudal Quick-Step, finished seventh overall, demonstrating the team's strong form in the race.

Visma-Lease a Bike took over the pace-setting, but the breakaway group held off the peloton past the flamme rouge. The gap between the lead group and the peloton dropped beneath 30 seconds, heading onto the finishing circuit. However, Soudal-QuickStep's efforts reduced the lead group's advantage to 45 seconds with 20 kilometers to go.

Despite the close finish, Magnier managed to hold onto his lead, retaining the yellow leader's jersey heading into the fifth and final stage. The climbers are expected to come to the fore in the final stage, as the overall classification is decided. Magnier stated that his team has a few cards to play heading into the decisive GC day.

The results of the stage were powered by FirstCycling. The Tour of Slovakia continues to deliver exciting racing, with Magnier aiming to make history with a fifth consecutive victory. Stay tuned for more updates from the Tour of Slovakia.
