Valasant (Valentin) Teodorovych, affectionately known as Stolyar, met his untimely end near Rivnopil in Donetsk Oblast on July 2, 2023. In the line of duty, this brave 53-year-old soldier suffered a fatal explosive injury.
Born in the heart of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast's Kitayhorod village, Valasant was the youngest of five siblings. Following his schooling, he honed his mechanical skills at Petrykivsky Vocational School No. 31, later applying his expertise back home on the collective farm. His mandatory military service saw him stationed in Kazakhstan. Marrying his neighbor, Lyudmyla, in 1994, they embarked on creating a home together and welcomed a son and daughter to their family.
Valasant was a man of integrity, skill, and devotion. Always pumped for adventure, he embraced his leisure time, whether before the war or while serving. He mastered the art of gathering mushrooms and fishing, with his comrades jokingly claiming he could even source fungi on asphalt. His creative flair extended beyond foraging - he was an artist with a guitar, trumpet, wickerwork, carpentry, and furniture making talents. An aspiring beekeeper, he dreamt of establishing a thriving apiary once the war ended.
On March 14, 2022, Valasant enlisted in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, serving within the 128th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade as a driver for the 230th Battalion (Military Unit A7405).
"Valasant was a welcoming and engaging individual who simply couldn't be overlooked. His boundless creativity, talent, and skills made him an essential source of inspiration for those who were fortunate enough to know him. The impact he leaves on his nation palpably resonates, reinforcing his status as a revered leader, a steadfast defender of his people. His kindness, selflessness, and generosity will linger in the minds and hearts of those who had the pleasure of his company," shared his close relatives.
He was laid to rest in his cherished hometown.
In Valasant's absence, his family remains steadfast with love: wife Lyudmyla, son Igor, daughter Aliona, brother Oleksandr, and sisters Lyudmyla and Liubov.
Valasant demonstrated unwavering courage and made the ultimate sacrifice in defending Ukraine during these tumultuous times. The vast landscape of servicemen fighting for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity continually paints a portrait of resilience and selflessness, with brave souls like Valasant leaving a profound impression on the country's heart.
