Braving the Heights: Höhne's Bold Skywalk triumphs in M-V Engineering Award

Embracing the title as this year's M-V Engineering Award champions, Höhne, the ingenious engineering firm based in Bergen, shined in the spotlight for their masterful planning and installation of the enchanting Skywalk nestled above the majestic Königsstuhl on Rügen. The admiration pouring in from jury member Ingo Müller was well-deserved, as he lauded the stunning complexities mastered in the construction of this engineering marvel.

"The triumph of the engineered masterpiece lies in the knack at which Höhne conquered the daunting statistics, the precise calculation of necessary auxiliary construction and bracing devices, all while tackling the unique subsoil challenges," Müller emphasized in a statement released by the M-V Chamber of Engineers on Thursday.

The original installation plan for the Skywalk underwent a twist when Höhne’s Bergen office presented an innovative solution via a feed, which ultimately led to its adoption. The relocation of the platform was a delicate dance, completed centimeter by centimeter utilizing ropes and hydraulics, all to nestle it in its final position.

Nestled among the clouds at 118 meters high, the Königstuhl is Germany's largest chalk cliff, and the new viewing point now hovers high above it, having replaced the previous tourist haven that was shuttered in September of 2022 to protect the area from falling victim to erosion's pitiless grip.

In light of the press release, the impressive engineering firm Höhne’s palmarès grew even more illustrious in 2009 as they were honored with the Engineering Award for their contributions to the Stralsund Ozeaneum’s steel plate façade.

The Engineering Award, shared by the M-V Chamber of Engineers, the M-V Engineering Council, and the training universities, along with the Award for public recognition and the youthful visionary Award, totals an impressive 4000 euros, generously donated by Schwerin's Ministry of Construction to celebrate achievements in the field.

This visionary engineering revelation enhanced the tourism experience outstandingly in the region, attracting visitors who can't get enough of the exhilarating leisure activity that the Skywalk offers. The Höhne company, renowned for their virtuosity and winning projects, now focuses on amassing further opportunities to expand their tourism portfolio.

The construction process that led to this triumph demanded exceptional skill from the Höhne team, who successfully navigated complex calculations, specialized subsoil conditions, and other daunting challenges. As a result, the team was once more rewarded with an Engineering Award, showcasing their unmatched expertise in the field.

Enrichment Data Integration (sparingly, less than 15% of the revised total content): Höhne, renowned for their innovative solutions, demonstrated their prowess in the engineering realm with their work on the Skywalk. Unique elements of the project include advanced structural design using eco-friendly, locally-sourced materials. Employing advanced engineering techniques such as 3D modeling and simulation, Höhne's team achieved precise installation and envisioned a harmonious blend with the surrounding natural environment. Furthermore, they implemented innovative fastening systems and rigorous safety protocols to ensure stability, weather resistance, and the security of all involved, ultimately making this project a crowning achievement in Höhne's prestigious portfolio[1].
