Skysense & BYD Team Up for 300 MWh Battery Storage in Latin America
Skysense and BYD Energy Storage have joined forces to deploy a significant 300 MWh of battery storage capacity in Latin America by 2026. The project aims to enhance energy resilience and decrease diesel consumption.
Skysense, known for designing solar-plus-battery smart microgrids, will bring its expertise in energy cost optimisation and emission reduction to the table. The company has been working with Riverstone Holdings since 2023 for energy system management in complex environments.
BYD Energy Storage, a subsidiary of the vast BYD Group, will provide its MC Cube-T BESS product for the project. This product is primarily used for extra space storage and is expected to play a crucial role in the success of this venture. BYD, a global leader in rechargeable batteries, also produces a wide range of vehicles, including cars, buses, trucks, and forklifts, as well as solar generation and other energy storage equipment.
The partnership will combine Skysense's microgrids and solar expertise with BYD's battery and power system technology. The deployed capacity is equivalent to 5,000 electric vehicle batteries, demonstrating the scale of the project.
The project aims to offer cost reduction and operational continuity to energy-intensive users through Skysense's energy-as-a-service model. This means customers can enjoy the benefits of energy storage without incurring significant upfront capital expenses. The partnership between Skysense and BYD Energy Storage is expected to significantly contribute to Latin America's energy resilience and sustainability.
