Skyguide rebounds with €61M profit as Swiss air traffic hits record highs
Skyguide, Switzerland's air navigation service provider, has reported a consolidated profit of 55.2 million Swiss francs (around €61 million) for 2025. This marks a significant recovery after an 18.9 million franc loss the previous year.
The turnaround comes as the company handled a record 1.346 million instrument flight rule (IFR) operations—a 1.3% increase from 2024. Takeoffs and landings also rose by 1.7%, reaching approximately 487,500 movements.
The financial improvement was largely driven by higher air traffic control fees. At the start of 2025, Skyguide raised overflight charges by 38% and landing fees by 24%, pending approval from the European Commission.
Despite the fee increases, the company maintained strong operational performance. In 2025, 96.3% of all flights arrived within their scheduled timeframes. The average air traffic control-related delay per flight was just 37 seconds—exceeding European standards.
Skyguide also made significant financial progress in repaying its COVID-19 relief loan. Of the original 250 million franc loan, 86 million francs have now been repaid, including 41 million francs in 2025 alone. Additionally, the company invested 70 million francs in operations and technology upgrades.
Over the past five years, Skyguide's flight movements have followed broader European trends, reflecting post-pandemic recovery. While general European air traffic control data shows improving on-time performance, detailed comparisons between Skyguide and European averages remain limited without access to official operational reports.
The 2025 results highlight Skyguide's financial recovery and operational efficiency. With record flight numbers, reduced delays, and ongoing loan repayments, the company has strengthened its position in European air navigation. The fee adjustments and technology investments are expected to support continued growth in the coming years.
