Pride of Arras and Gewan Shine at York's Sky Bet Meeting

Pride of Arras, a homebred son of New Bay, continued his impressive form at York Racecourse, winning the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes for the second time. This victory marks his second York Group 2 success, following his triumph in the Dante Stakes earlier this year.

Pride of Arras, who was gelded following below-par performances in the Derby and Irish Derby, showed his class again at York, winning by a length. His win added another feather to the cap of his sire, Night Of Thunder, who continues to lead the British and Irish and European sires' tables.

Meanwhile, another Night Of Thunder colt, Gewan, also made his mark at York. Gewan, who was bred by Overbury Stud and Dukes Stud, was purchased for not much money by Billy Jackson-Stops before being sold to Longways Stables. Gewan's impressive victory in the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes came just minutes after Night Of Thunder supplied two Group winners within minutes of each other: More Thunder and Zahrann in the Hungerford Stakes and Royal Whip Stakes respectively.

Gewan's dam, Grey Mystere, is a Listed-placed Lethal Force mare and is out of a half-sister to 2007 Prix Saint-Alary winner Coquerelle.

Night Of Thunder's success at York was not limited to Pride of Arras and Gewan. Ombudsman, one of Night Of Thunder's eight existing Group or Grade 1 winners, clinched the Juddmonte International, a prestigious race at York. Ombudsman, bred by James Hanly, previously won the race in 2021.

In other news, Night Of Thunder's daughter out of Prudenzia topped the Arqana August Yearling Sale on Monday, selling to Amo Racing for €3 million, setting a new record for the sale. The 1,000 Guineas heroine Desert Flower leads Night Of Thunder's 2025 top-level haul.

American Grade 1 scorers Choisya and Dynamic Pricing are among Night Of Thunder's top-level winners, further cementing his status as a successful sire in the racing world.
