Soaring healthcare costs and exorbitant prices might dissuade Latino voters from voting for Republican candidates in the year 2026.

Sky-high medical expenses and healthcare costs could potentially dissuade Latino voters from supporting Republican candidates in the 2026 elections.

The economic dissatisfaction among Latino voters towards the Republican Party in the 2022 midterm elections was primarily influenced by frustration over high living costs and unmet economic promises made by the GOP.

According to polls, a majority of voters (56%) feel that the economy is getting worse under President Trump. This sentiment is reflected in the rising expenses and inflation that Latino voters cite as key grievances, which reduce their confidence in the Republican Party's economic policies and promises.

Broader political shifts reflect a decline in party favorability among nonwhite voters (including Latinos) since 2021. This trend shows a notable swing away from Democrats but also dissatisfaction with both major parties, suggesting that economic concerns are deeply affecting voter sentiment.

Daniel Garza, president of the Libre Initiative, stated that many Latinos are not satisfied with the current economy. He points out that folks aren't getting good-paying jobs, wage growth, checks on inflation, affordable health care and housing, and quality education.

Republicans have failed to deliver on their campaign promises, particularly around lowering the cost of living, according to Caitlin Jury, a research director at Equis Research. This failure has led to slipping support for Republicans in the Latino demographic.

Despite this, Daniel Garza remains optimistic that most Latinos who voted for Republican candidates will be patient. However, if Democrats fail to deliver on their promises, it could represent a missed opportunity. According to Garza, the optics, narratives, and policies of the Democratic party in the past few years favor Republicans.

The disillusionment and dissatisfaction among Latino voters, including among many who voted for Trump, present a significant opportunity for Democrats to change course and provide a "sweeping economic vision", suggests Morales. If Democrats can deliver on a proactive vision for dealing with Latino concerns, they could see shifts back to support.

According to Somos Votantes' polling, a large majority of Hispanic/Latino voters continue to rate the U.S. economy today as poor (64%), including nearly a third who say it is very poor (32%). About a third of Latinos who supported Trump last year are not set on voting for a Republican during next year's midterms.

A man wearing a "Latinos for America" T-shirt attended a campaign event for Republican congressional candidates in McAllen, Texas, in 2022. This incident underscores the complexity of Latino voter sentiment and the ongoing battle for their support in the midterm elections.

Poll data from 2025 further reinforces that economic issues continue to dominate Latino voter attitudes, emphasizing ongoing concern about the economy even beyond the 2022 midterms. The cost of living crisis and perceived GOP failures on economic promises are central factors driving Latino voters' economic dissatisfaction with the Republican Party during the 2022 midterm cycle.
