In a heartfelt farewell, iconic German actor Sky du Mont has announced that "The Canoe of Manitu" will be his final film. This poignant moment marked the end of an illustrious career spanning over five decades.

Du Mont, who turned 78 during the filming, reprised his role as the villainous Santa Maria, a character he first portrayed in the cult classic "Der Schuh des Manitu." The film, a sequel to the original, boasts an ensemble cast and was shot in various locations, including Munich, Spain, and New Mexico, between August and November 2024.

Director Michael "Bully" Herbig had a special moment planned for Du Mont's last day on set, which left many, including co-stars Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian, moved to tears. The emotional response extended to the premiere, where Du Mont received a standing ovation from the audience, without a single spoken word from the screen legend.

Herbig, who prepared a few lines for this moment but was unable to speak due to emotion, described Du Mont's decision to retire as a "worthy farewell." Du Mont, in turn, thanked the directors for the opportunity to work with them and considered his return to acting in "The Canoe of Manitu" a "gift."

Du Mont joked about not being able to ride in the film, but working with Herbig, Tramitz, and Kavanian on "The Canoe of Manitu" was an "absolute highlight" for the veteran actor. The film, set to be released in German cinemas, promises to be a fitting conclusion to Du Mont's storied career.

As Santa Maria is pursued by Abahachi and Ranger in "The Canoe of Manitu," audiences can expect a thrilling finale to Du Mont's on-screen adventures. The film's release serves as a testament to Du Mont's enduring influence and the impact he has left on German cinema.
