Kickstarting the fun on the Zugspitze, ski fans braved frosty temperatures and fog this weekend. Verena Tanzer, from Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, shared her exhilaration, dubbing it "heavy snowfall, poor visibility - but pure joy over masses of snow." Local skiers with season or annual passes showcased their enthusiasm, carving fresh tracks above 2,000 meters.
A whopping 2 meters of snow covered the slopes, making this year's start an exceptional one since 2007. Despite the challenging climate, three lifts were operational, providing skiers with access to eight trails – more than the typical opening count.
Eager winter enthusiasts had to shell out a touch more for their adventures. Prices in popular spots like Zugspitze and Garmisch Classic were up approximately 5 euros, following Austria's similar increase of up to 10%. However, sales for season tickets remain booming, with interest in skiing undeterred.
Beyond Zugspitze, earlier winter operations commenced in the Black Forest and a day after in Söllereck, Allgäu. The heavy snowfall shuffled the usual opening order of resorts.
By February 14, 2025, the Zugspitze boasted stellar snow conditions:
- Upper Depth: 121 cm at 2,720 m
- Lower Depth: 79 cm at 2,000 m
- Lift and Trail Openings: 7 out of 9 lifts & 11 out of 13 trails
Prices for these delightful ski sessions are:
- Adult Ticket: EUR 62.00
- Youth (16-18) Ticket: EUR 31.00
- Children (6-15) Ticket: EUR 31.00
- Student Ticket: EUR 62.00
- Family Adult Ticket: EUR 55.00
- Family Child Ticket: EUR 27.50
These totals cover one uphill and downhill ride on both the cable car and cogwheel train in Zugspitze.
