Ski-Ass details an exceptional holiday adventure
Swiss ski star Joana Hählen is making a comeback, aiming for a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo. After a series of unexpected turns and challenges in her career, Hählen is more relaxed and focused on maintaining her mindset, rather than winning races.
Last winter, Hählen demonstrated her strength and determination in the World Cup, finishing a commendable second in the downhill in Val d'Isère. This achievement was a testament to her resilience, having faced years of challenges, including multiple ACL injuries.
In an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick, Hählen spoke about her unexpected improvement and the joy she currently experiences in her career. One significant turning point came during her vacation on the picturesque island of Sardinia, where she noticed improvement in her right knee.
After her fourth ACL injury last winter, Hählen decided against surgery and instead opted for comprehensive knee rehabilitation. This decision, made with the agreement of her doctors, seems to have paid off, as Hählen was able to ski without any problems in Zermatt for eleven days.
Hählen's current situation is markedly better compared to a year ago. She has resumed playing tennis, but must always be careful with her knee. Despite this, she remains optimistic, hoping to experience another big event like the Olympics, especially at a beautiful place like Cortina.
Hählen has only competed at the Winter Olympics once before, finishing sixth in the downhill in Beijing in 2022. Her goal now is to make a comeback and compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics. However, her coach's support in her comeback preparation and Olympic ambitions remains a private matter.
As Hählen continues her journey towards the 2026 Winter Olympics, her story serves as an inspiration for many, demonstrating the power of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
