Sizzling summer heat sweeps across the nation once more.

As the summer season continues, Germany is bracing for a weekend of extreme heat and potential thunderstorms, according to the German Weather Service. The mercury is expected to soar, with temperatures reaching the upper 30s Celsius across much of the country, particularly in central and eastern regions. Some areas, such as northeastern Germany, might even hit 38-39 °C by midweek [1].

The heatwave, which has been lingering over central Europe since early July 2025, shows no signs of abatement. However, the presence of a colder maritime air mass moving in from the Bay of Biscay could lead to severe weather events, primarily in western and northern parts of Germany and neighbouring regions [1].

While the south and west of the country can expect sunny weather, the north and east are forecast to experience cloudy skies and rain. The Upper Rhine region, for instance, is predicted to reach a high of 33 degrees Celsius on Friday [2].

Despite these occasional thunderstorms, the general weather trend remains hot and dry, increasing drought risks and wildfire threats in agriculture-intensive areas [2]. Weather experts have issued warnings about the extreme conditions, urging caution and preparedness among the public [3].

The weekend weather forecast is particularly unpredictable, with Sunday promising "real weather chaos" as sunny periods are followed by storms. Wednesday was the coldest day this week, but temperatures are expected to rise by the weekend [4].

In light of these conditions, people are encouraged to enjoy the warmer weather responsibly, perhaps by taking a trip to the lake or the sea while they can. After all, even on rainy days, beautiful sunny hours can still be enjoyed [5].

The German Weather Service is forecasting a weekend of extreme heat and potential thunderstorms, given the ongoing heatwave. The weather-forecasting agency also indicates that a colder maritime air mass moving from the Bay of Biscay could lead to severe weather events in western and northern parts of Germany.
