Sizzling heatwave anticipated nationwide
Germany is set to experience a warm and sunny week, according to the latest forecasts from the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. The new week brings summer-like weather, with temperatures expected to reach the low to mid 20s Celsius.
Initially, the weather will remain calm. The highest values will be 30 to 36 degrees during the day, with some cloud fields in the northern regions. On Wednesday, the heat will spread to the northeast, with temperatures of 31 to 38 degrees expected in many regions.
Towards the southwest, there is a risk of strong heat stress, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 38 degrees. Especially in this half, the sun will shine most of the day from a clear sky. On Wednesday, temperatures may reach these peak values across much of the country.
On Thursday, the peak values will be 30 to 38 degrees. From Thursday afternoon, there may be some, sometimes strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, particularly in the southwestern half. It will remain mainly sunny on Wednesday, but there may be some showers in the southern mountains in the afternoon.
The night from Thursday to Friday will be very mild in the western half, with locally tropical nights (temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees). The risk of thunderstorms will significantly increase on Friday, particularly in the south. Only in coastal areas will it be a bit cooler.
In the following days, it will get increasingly hot. A dip in the cool water of local lakes and pools will provide relief from the heat. However, it's important to note that the current forecasts do not highlight any thunderstorm alerts in Germany for this period.
Previous days had potential for "Hitzegewitter" (heat thunderstorms) in late July and early August, but these are not repeated in the forecast for this week. The weather forecast for Germany from Wednesday to Friday shows generally mild to warm temperatures but with no significant indication of thunderstorms during this period.
