Jet skis come to the rescue at the beach, saving six individuals, but one individual unfortunately perishes in a dramatic rip current mishap.

Six individuals were successfully rescued from distress by a jet ski operator at a shoreline, tragically with one fatality resulting from a dramatic encounter with a rip current.

In a dramatic incident on Monday evening, the Seaside Heights Fire Department was called upon to rescue six individuals who found themselves caught in a rip current at Webster Avenue Beach in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

Unfortunately, one of the victims could not be saved, and they were later pronounced dead at the Community Medical Center.

The beach did not have lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident, which has raised concerns about the importance of lifeguard presence at public beaches.

Chris Brewster, co-author of a peer-reviewed study on rip currents, stated that most people are unaware of the dangers of rip currents while in the water. According to Brewster's study, rip currents cause 81.9% of rescues on surf beaches.

Rip currents are known to be a significant cause of fatalities, with estimates suggesting that more than 100 fatal drownings per year may occur due to rip currents. However, the exact number of rip current fatalities reported in the United States for 2025 is not specified in the provided search results.

The National Weather Service has reported 49 rip current deaths so far this year, but for accurate and up-to-date information, it would be best to contact the National Weather Service directly or check their official reports.

In the incident at Webster Avenue Beach, the Seaside Heights Fire Department deployed a rescue swimmer with a jet ski to save the six victims. One victim required CPR before being rushed to shore.

Dramatic aerial video shows the rescuer grabbing the individuals one by one, placing them on a raft, and quickly driving to shore with medics on site.

Interestingly, the Seaside Heights Fire Department's ocean rescue team saved 12 people from a rip current on beaches with lifeguards on duty, as reported by FOX 5.

Brewster advised that when realizing a rip current is occurring, one should not fight the current but instead relax, float, and try to swim out of the rip.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the individual who lost their life in this tragic incident. It serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and the dangers posed by rip currents.
